Living Inside Out
Years ago my children had a bad habit of putting their pants inside out in the dirty clothes basket. I didn’t catch on at first and I found myself peeling them right-side out time and again. I finally got wise and made an announcement that their pants would be returned to them in the shape I found them, clean, but hanging inside-out. And that’s exactly what I did. It is rather funny to see clean clothes hanging nicely and then the jeans hanging there with the ugly side showing. And additionally funny that in order to wear them, the kids still have to reach in and turn them right-side out.
But speaking of the “ugly side showing”, I have known many people with their ugly side showing. So unfortunate yet changeable. I know this because I am certainly not perfect and have had to tweak my behavior through the years; it is an on going process. I have told my girls for years to “be pretty on the inside because that’s the most important part”. I would explain that who you are on the inside is the part God cares about the most. The outside is just a shell.
Though the pants hanging inside out looks strange and out of place, that’s really how we should be living…with our Spirit inside out. With our beauty from the inside hanging right out there, shining, smiling, singing, and lighting the world.
I hope you’re living an inside out kind of life and if you’re not, I dare you to start today. It will change you my friends.
“…let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious." 1 Peter 3:4
