Need encouragement? Me too. We all need encouragement at one time or another. So, I am reminded of a recent event that would otherwise be something trivial. But today, the “trivial” is the story we all need to lift our spirits…
To say that I am a novice bike rider would be an understatement. I started clumsily riding along, recently, for the health of my knees. I was on my bike one day this week trying to make it up a hill. My concentration could have turned a lump of coal into a diamond, but I happened to notice a lady walking down the hill. I looked up long enough to see her with her fist in the air happily rooting me on, “Go, go, go!” I gave her the thumbs up and a huge smile. Who does that? What a precious gesture. I really needed it. She helped me make it up the hill successfully. I felt empowered by her energy.
Here’s the thing...God is rooting you on too. Whatever is going on in your life right now, He wants you to succeed, move forward, serve others, and live for Him. Just when you think you don’t have the strength to go on, ask Him for it. Ask Him for the strength to make it through the day, through the hour. But when you ask, don’t forget to look around for His answers. They could come in the form of peace when drama has been all around but has now subsided. Or a friend who you haven’t heard from in a while who suddenly calls you to say they are praying for you. Or a small gift of encouragement that seems to have come out of nowhere. Or someone who pays forward a tiny act of kindness when you thought there was no kindness left in the world. So, here’s to you, my friend, “Go, go, go!” You can make it up that hill! The joy of the Lord is your strength!
Keep your chin up,
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” Psalm 37:23-24
To the lady in my neighborhood with such a big heart, thank you for inspiring this writing.
