"I've Got Sunshine On A Cloudy Day"

It was one of those life lessons that took me a while to learn. That was…surrounding myself with people who were sunshine. I have had negativity in my life, I dare say, more than most for one reason or another – much of it work related. When I was younger, I wanted a way out mentally, but found myself at a loss. I’m not even sure who explained the concept to me, but I’m so grateful nonetheless…

Our little life-lesson-journey will start with some sweet flowers I bought recently. I have a small pot garden on my deck. It gives me great joy to see the plants and flowers bloom all summer. I bought the potted plants a bit prematurely this year, so I’ve housed them in my kitchen until the cold nights were definitely over. For many days now, I have carefully transported the flowers back and forth from my kitchen to the deck to get some sun.  As I put one particular pot down, the flowers seemed to smile back at me saying, “Thank you so much. We needed some sun today.” Because without it, they wouldn’t last long.  We all remember 5th grade science, right? Living things must have sunlight after darkness or they will never survive.

We are much the same way. Is there darkness and negativity in life? Of course there is. But if we don’t get into the light, surround ourselves with positivity, and happiness, we will stay in a pitiful, sad place. Whatever you focus on gets bigger. And whatever you are surrounded by makes it seem like that’s all there is. I recently saw a story where a donkey was raised indoors with the owner’s dogs.  Well guess what? The donkey acted just like the dogs! It was hysterical! Point being, when life seems really dark, find sunshine. Surround yourself with it. Crave it. Wear it on the inside like your life depends on it. You know that really great person who you wish you were more like, the one who has no worries, and smiles all the time? Ask him or her to lunch. Soak in the Spirit and leave refreshed. And when you feel stronger and less in darkness, be that person to someone else.

I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. Do you?

Blessings,
Celeste
“…at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light…” Ephesians 5:8

To all my sisters and brothers in Christ who are my sunshine (and you know who you are), thank you!
