Thoughts for Today

The Lady With the Pink Hair

She wore her bright pink hair unapologetically as we rode in an elevator together. Of course, I noticed her. She was very obvious because not only was her entire head of hair pink, she was an older lady; most of the people I’ve seen, whose hair was not a traditional color, have been young or middle aged. So, naturally, she stood out in my mind. I imagined that she was making a statement for cancer awareness or something like that. We were the only two in the elevator and it was extremely slow, so a conversation broke out in the midst of our boredom. We carried on with small talk until she said this…

“I let my hair dresser color my hair pink one day,” as she smiled sheepishly. I commented how interesting that sounded so she continued with her story. It turns out, her hair stylist was a student who needed to do something bold to pass her test so she could graduate. When the student stylist mentioned this to her, she asked what the student had in mind. The student went on to say that a neat color would make a statement and mentioned a few colors. The older lady agreed to help out with a head full of pink hair, so the project commenced. I told her how brave and kind that was – to help someone out that way. Not just anyone would have done that. Certainly, that was more than a simple good deed. I asked the lady if the student graduated. Her sweet, wrinkled face, framed by the pink hair, lit up. “Yes, she did!” she exclaimed. I rejoiced right along with her and the student. What a feel-good story! The pink headed woman did not have a clue that my mind was already typing the story up, but it was. We need more good in the world and we need more people who are brave enough to help another along their journey.

God uses us for His purpose. And He gave the older lady a tender heart to help a student achieve what He needed her to achieve. And He used them both to motivate me to write for you. Hopefully, you will go on to notice a situation where God is using you to help someone else in need. Except it probably won’t involve dying your whole head of hair pink. 😊

Go be great this week,
Celeste
