Ticket For One

Have you ever wondered what someone thinks of you?  Maybe they see you and think you are handsome or beautiful.  Maybe they see you and think you’re too fat or too skinny, too bubbly or too sad.  Maybe they see you and they think they know what you’ve been through so they avoid you.  Maybe they see the scar on your face or leg and wonder what happened.

An old mentor of mine had me imagine once, that I was on a stage alone acting out my life.  He asked me, “Who is in the audience?”  I spouted off several people I thought would be interested in how I was living my life like my parents, kids, siblings, friends, etc.  “No,” he said.  Quite confused at this point and unable to answer the question, he relieved my inability to get it right.  “God,” he pointed out.  Then he continued, “God is the only one in the audience.  Live your life in such a way that you please your Father and nothing that anyone thinks matters.”

Wow!  So very, very true.  When I started doing that, I suddenly didn’t care what anyone else thought of me, my past, my future, my appearance, etc.  Am I perfect?  Not at all.  But God knows my heart and my daily desire to please Him.  When I choose to put Him first, then everything else falls in place.  When I don’t consider what others think, I have so much more peace in my life.  Because I know the truth.  And most certainly, God knows the truth.

So here’s to your one person play with you as the headline and God as the only one buying a ticket to see your performance!

Humbly,
Celeste

In memory of my mentor, friend, and brother-in-Christ.  You continue to bless others even in death.
